Cashtown Inn

The Cashtown Inn is a haunted bed and breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. During the civil war it served as quarters for Confederate officers and their staff. It also has a blood-soaked history.

Cashtown Inn

During the Battle of Gettysburg, the Cashtown Inn was used as a hospital for injured soldiers and the basement was the surgery room. They say that the street outside was red with blood and many amputated limbs were tossed out the window and piled high outside.

It is said that every room in the Cashtown Inn is haunted. In the A.P. Hill Room, guests have reported the rocking chair mysteriously moving during the night and the sensation of someone sitting on the bed while they try to sleep. Guests have also heard thumping on the door and when they open the door, they find no one there.

Two apparitions have been seen in the Inn – one, a woman, has been seen dozens of times in the General Lee Suite. The other, a confederate soldier, has been seen in the Heth Room. Finally, people have also reported encountering someone dressed in a Confederate uniform in the hallway or near the bar. In fact, the owner saw a shadowy figure walk through the downstairs hallway and then disappear into thin air. The Inn also has some photos containing ghostly figures lurking in the background.

TVs mysteriously turn off and on and guests have reported returning to their rooms to find their suitcases packed. Some have even been awoken in the night by the sound of horses trampling through their bedroom. People regularly hear ghostly footsteps on the third floor, especially in the Robert E Lee room.

When Ghost Hunters investigated the Cashtown Inn in 2008, they captured footage of a picture frame spinning around on its own in one of the rooms.

  • Living not too far from Gettysburg, I’ve been there numerous times, but never after dark lol. Visited the Cashtown Inn, The Jennie Wade House, Devil’s Den, etc and even during the day and though I never saw anything, all are creepy. I’ve been wanting to do one of their ghost tours forever, but then the idea just freaks me out. We have ghost tours where I live, in Lancaster PA and in nearby Strasburg and though I’d like to go on one, I always chicken out lol.

  • Are the ghosts still there? Or can we go there? Sufi If you want to go there. I will be watching you having a bath cuz i am worried about people…like you :I.
