Cough Cough is a scary riddle about two people who are having a conversation over the phone. It is one of the “cryptic Japanese horror stories” which is “scary when you understand the meaning”. You have to think about it for a while to figure out what’s really going on.
“Hi! Long time no see!”
“Yes, it’s been a while. I’m glad you called.”
“How have you been?”
“Cough! Cough!”
“What’s wrong? You have a cold?”
“Yes, I’ve been coughing for days now. I think I’m going to go to bed early tonight.”
“Just rememeber to lock your doors and windows.”
“Why?”
“You didn’t hear about it on the news?”
“No. What happened?”
“It seems that there has been a spate of murders in the area.”
“That’s terrible.”
“Yes. They say the killer gets into the house somehow and strangles the victims from behind with a rope.”
“How awful!”
“I know. It has me spooked.”
“What is the world coming to?… Cough! Cough! Oh!!”
“Bless you.”
“Cough! Cough! Choke!”
“Are you OK?”
“Cough! Cough! Choke! Cough! Cough!”
“Your cold must be getting worse.”
“Yes…”
“Your voice even sounds hoarse.”
“Uh-huh…”
“Is there nothing you can take for it?”
“I’ve run out of cough medicine and the drugstore is closed. You don’t happen to have any, do you?”
“As a matter of fact, I do.”
“Great. Can I call over to your place and collect it?”
“Sure.”
“How do I get there again?”
“You’ve been here before, haven’t you?”
“Yeah, but I’ve forgotten the exact route. If you tell me your address, I’ll be able to find it.”
“OK. I’ll text it to you.”
“Great. I’ll see you in about an hour.”
“Fine… Oh, wait… This might sound stupid, but for safety’s sake, perhaps we should arrange a secret knock. Just so I know it’s really you.”
“Good idea. You can never be too careful… Especially these days.”
“How about this… You knock three times, then two times, then three times.”
“OK. Got it. See you in an hour.”
“See you soon. I hope I don’t catch your cold.”
“You don’t need to worry about that.”

Okay I think I got it. So basically the murder was choking the person while talking to the choking person’s friend on the phone. And the coughing was that of the dieing person’s
Good riddle, but not as good as Falling Station. I was able to figure it out before I finished reading.

The person “Coughing” was the murderer. The one who was actually coughing was getting strangled. That’s why he\she was coughing and choking. Am I right SFK?
Scaryforkids says: Yes, that’s the solution. The person coughing and choking is being strangled. Then, the killer takes over and carries on the conversation, pretending to be the person he just murdered. And he uses that to get the address of the friend, so he can kill him too.
The sick friend is the killer. He wasn’t the one coughing/choking, it was the victim of the murder.
Okay then lets put in this way:
The killer was at first friend’s house and he killed him. Then when second friend called the first one, the killer picked up the phone and started talking to the second friend…claiming he had cough and when the second friend said he has cough drug….tge killer thought of killing him too and asked for address claiming he had forgotten his address in order to trick him..and also the killer got the secret code to get in.
One theory is that the person who was coughing was actually the narrator’s friend. The killer was strangling the friend while talking on the phone at the same time, which explains the repeated coughing and choking heard on the phone. After this, the killer tricks the narrator and makes him his next victim.
I know it! (For once!) The person he was talking to was choked to death and they died and the the murderer came on the phone with a different voice, the guy thinking the cold was just really bad, the murderer “forgot” the address and got it. Then he came with the secret knock and killed him. :D

Solution: The person who asked for the address is the killer and was posing as the one with the cough. That person has one hour to live before they get killed.
