House is a comedy horror movie from 1986 and in my opinion is one of the best haunted house monster movies ever made.
House the Movie
House stars William Katt (The Greatest American Hero) as Roger Cobb, a writer who inherits a haunted house from his dead aunt. He stays there hoping for some peace and quiet to write his book but his nosey neighbor (George Wendt from Cheers) just won’t leave him alone.
Roger, however, has bigger troubles – He starts to see things, such as gooey, dripping monsters in his closet and bathroom. His ex-wife comes to visit and mutates into a hideous purple beast. Soon other ghosts and monsters are popping up, and Roger is forced to deal with the house’s evil demons. He finds out the ghosts that haunt the building have kidnapped his son, and Roger must now battle his past to get back his life, his son and his sanity.
House 2 – The Second Story
In the sequel, another guy inherits the haunted house and when he moves in has to deal with ancient monsters, fearsome dinosaurs and a ghostly outlaw from the old west. John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers) plays the nosey neighbor in this one and there’s even a little part for Bill Maher.
House 3 – The Horror Show
Now this sequel has very little to do with the previous House movies. It stars Lance Henriksen as Detective Lucas McCarthy who finally apprehends a serial killer called “Meat Cleaver Max”. He watches the execution of Max in the electric chair. But killing Max only elevated him to another level of reality. Now Lucas’ family is under attack, his sanity is in question, and his house is haunted. Aided by a disreputable college professor, Lucas tries to reclaim his mind, his house, and his family.
House 4 – The Repossession
Roger Cobb (William Katt) is killed in a car accident and his daughter is left in a wheelchair. The movie seems to forget that Roger ever had a son. The surviving family members must move into the house that has haunted them for several years. Soon they begin to experience scary and unexplained phenomena. The surreal sauce-spitting singing pizza is one of the film’s brighter moments, as is the presence of a crazy midget named Mr. Grosso.
