During afternoon tea, there’s a shift in the air,
a bone-trembling chill that tells you she’s there.
There are those who believe the whole town is cursed,
but the house in the marsh was by far the worst.
What she wants is unknown, but she always comes back,
the spectre of darkness, the woman in black.

You’re gonna die screaming but you won’t be heard.
From Dr. Giggles
(Suggested by a member named “Huntress of the North”)
This town has a doctor and his name is Rendell
Stay away from his house ’cause he’s the doctor from Hell.
He killed all his patients, every last one,
And cut out their hearts… purely for fun.
So if you’re from Moorehigh and you get sick
Fall on your knees and pray you die quick.
A Child’s Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
Should I die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Mary Ann Cotton
(Mary Ann Cotton was an English woman who is believed to have murdered 21 people in the late 1800s by arsenic poisoning)
Mary Ann Cotton
She’s dead and she’s rotten
Lying in bed with her eyes wide open
Sing? Sing? What song should I sing?
Mary Anne Cotton is tied up in string.
Where? where? She’s up in the air
And now they’re selling puddings for a penny a pair.
Doctor Ruxton
(Buck Ruxton was a doctor in England who killed his wife and his maid in 1935.)

The nursemaid she saw you and threatened to tell.
Oh Doctor Ruxton, you killed her as well.
Fritz Haarmann
(Fritz Haarmann murdered 27 boys and young men in the 1920s in Germany)
Just you wait ’til it’s your time,
Haarmann will come after you,
And with his chopper, oh so fine,
He’ll make mincemeat out of you.
Belle Gunness
(Belle Gunness was a woman who murdered over 40 men in America in the 1880s.)
Belle Gunness was a lady fair, in Indiana State.
She weighed about three hundred pounds and that is quite some weight.
That she was stronger than a man, her neighbors all did own;
She butchered hogs right easily and did it all alone.
But hogs were just a sideline she indulged in now and then;
Her favorite occupation was the butchering of men.
Miss Mary Mack
Miss Mary Mack Mack Mack
She’s dressed in black black black
she has a knife knife knife
Stuck in her back back back
She cannot breathe breathe breathe
She cannot cry cry cry
That’s why she begs begs begs
She begs to die die die
From Bluebeard
At last the girl could not refrain,
and turned the little key,
And looked within, and fainted straight
the horrid sight to see.
For there upon the floor was blood,
and on the walls were wives,
For Bluebeard first had married them,
then cut their throats with knives.
From We Have Always Lived in the Castle
Merricat, said Connie, would you like a cup of tea?
“Oh no,” said Merricat, “you’ll poison me.”
Merricat, said Connie, would you like to go to sleep?
Down in the boneyard ten feet deep!
Dead Men
Dead men, dead men, swinging in a tree
How many dead men do you see?
Tongue turned blue and face gone grey
Watch them as they twist and sway.
The first one killed the butcher man
Then cooked him in a frying pan
Served him to his hungry guests
And gave them seconds on request
The next one with his smile and sweets
Stole poor children off the streets
To men who dressed unsavory
He sold them into slavery
Dead men, dead men, swinging in a tree
How many dead men do you see?
Six feet long and six men wide
Around their necks the noose is tied.
Three Children on the Ice
Three children sliding on the ice
Upon a summer’s day,
As it fell out, they all fell in,
The rest they ran away.
If these children had been at school,
Or sliding on dry ground,
I’d bet you all a pretty penny
They would not have drowned.
Parents who have children dear,
And others who have none,
If you want to keep them safe and sound
Please keep them safe at home.
The Hanging Tree From The Hunger Games
Are you, are you, coming to the tree
where they strung up a man they say murdered three.
Strange things have happened here, no stranger would it be,
if we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you, coming to the tree
where the dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things have happened here no stranger would it be,
if we me up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you, coming to the tree
where I told you to run so we would both be free.
Strange things have happened here no stranger would it be
if we met up at midnight in the haning tree.
Are you, are you, coming to the tree
wear your necklace of rope and hang side by side with me.
Strange things have happened here no stranger would it be
if we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Three Sons
There was an old woman who had three sons,
Called Jerry and James and John,
Jerry was hanged and James was drowned,
John was lost at sea and never found;
And that was an end of her three sons,
Called Jerry and James and John.
Two Dead Boys
One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other,
drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise
and ran to save the two dead boys.
And if you don’t believe it’s true,
go ask the blind man, he saw it too.
O’Leary and O’Reilly
O’Leary is dead and O’Reilly don’t know it.
O’Reilly is dead and O’Leary don’t know it.
They both are dead in the very same bed,
And neither one knows that the other is dead.
The Desert
Out on the windswept desert, that desolate stretch of land,
One man spied another, lying in the sand
Said one man to the other, “What makes you lie that way?”
But the other did not answer for he’d been dead since May.
Willy
Willy was a helpful boy but quite near-sighted,
He built a fire in the fireplace and self-ignited;
Now, the wind is blowing cold and the room is getting chilly,
And not one of us wants to put out poor Willy.
The Song That Never Ends
This is the song that never ends
And it goes on and on my friends
Some people started singing it
not knowing what it was
And they’ll just keep on singing it
forever just because
This is the song that never ends
The Strange Girl
They looked at me with curious looks and looks of distrust,
“Her hair looks like bloody rust!”
“She smells like old milk!”
“I’ll bet you a fine penny she’ll cry when I kick!”
I stood there, near the board, as they ranted and chided,
You may think I would’ve spilled tears,
But no, I smiled, one that reached my ear,
And said with a quiet voice, “You’ll soon experience fear, my dears; because all you did was brag,
But soon one of you will be wrung out like a rag.
One of you will succumb to greed
The other will pay the Lord no heed.”
To this they all fell silent, then they laughed and laughed and laughed,
But no, nobody listed, now did they?
Johnny should’ve bet a fine penny he didn’t spin so fast,
He spun and spun all for fun,
And fast and fast and fast.
Until At Last
His body twisted like so,
His blood flowed out with nowhere else to go.
“Oh It’s True!” said one, who stared at him with horror,
“Don’t be a fool, you!” said another.
But I just smiled and backed out, while the wind set my hair awhirl
Because nobody listened
To the Strange Girl.
Hell
He woke in a panic
He was so very frantic
He smelt fire
But where was this fire
It was so very dire
That he find the blazing fire
He looked everywhere
But by then the smoke filled the air
He could not bare not knowing where the fire was
He was a little warm so he thought he’d get some water
It didn’t work he began to get hotter
He went to the restroom to splash water on his face
When he saw his reflection
He was the one on fire
He couldn’t stand the seering pain of his flesh being burnt
He began to yell
And that’s when he relized he was in hell
little girl
little girl home alone
got sucked inside the twilight zone
saw a beast so big and hairy
she screamed and thought oh so scary
she ran and ran
as fast as she can
she tripped and fell
down a well
the beast saw and thought oh whatever
and the little girl was stuck down there forever
I Witnessed:
Blood is red and tears are clear
I am witnessing
a little girl crying in fear
I have to save her
if only I could reach
but I coudnt anyway for my arms are to weak
footsteps and angry slurred words
getting louder he is coming near
in my mind all I saw
was a hearse
it is carrying the little girl
I came back to the scene
I saw the father hitting her feirce
I woke up in my bed the next morning
and I said just a dream!
I flipped on the t.v
and saw in a replay for me
that horrible murder scene
Do Not Disobey
It was a rainy,gloomy day
and Itsuki was going outside to play,
Behind him stood a crazed killer,
known by doctors as Old Tiller,
before Itsuki could step outside,
a knife was driven through his side,
and just before the young boy died,
Old Tiller said,”I told you not to disobey, and now by death you shall pay.”
To all the people talking about “Ring around the rosies” I always said it as “atichoo atichoo”. Anyway it is actually about the plague.
I remember the Two Dead Boys one… it was in Haunting In Connecticut :) Awesome movie <3 And I heard the Mary Ann Cotton one when I was little.. it's pretty messed up considering what it's about :S
The Hanging Tree is in the Hunger Games series, book three, Mockingjay.
I have two, one I read in an Agatha Christie book, I don’t know if it originated somewhere else:
Ten Little Indians
Ten little Indian boys went out to dine;
One choked his little self and then there were nine.
Nine little Indian boys sat up very late;
One overslept himself and then there were eight.
Eight little Indian boys traveling in Devon;
One said he’d stay there and then there were seven.
Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks;
One chopped himself in halves and then there were six.
Six little Indian boys playing with a hive;
A bumblebee stung one and then there were five.
Five little Indian boys going in for law,
One got in Chancery and then there were four.
Four little Indian boys going out to sea;
A red herring swallowed one and then there were three.
Three little Indian boys walking in the Zoo;
A big bear hugged one and then there were two.
Two little Indian boys sitting in the sun;
One got frizzled up and then there was one.
One little Indian boy left all alone;
He went and hanged himself and then there were none.
And here is the other. It’s from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark:
There was a man who lived in leeds,
He filled his garden full of seeds.
And when those seeds began to grow,
It was like a garden filled with snow.
But when the snow began to melt,
It was like a ship without a belt.
And when the ship began to sail,
It was like a bird without a tail.
And when the bird began to fly,
It was like an Eagle in the sky.
And when the sky began to roar,
It was like a lion at my door.
And when the door began to crack,
It was like a pen knife in my back.
And when my back began to bleed,
I was dead, dead, dead indeed!
Where is Steven, mommy? He can’t play and I’m sad.
You mustn’t ask, my darling–Steven has been bad.
Billy too, and Sally? Did they do something wrong?
I’m afraid it’s true, child–all your friends are gone.
Beware of he who took them–he goes by many names.
The Bogeyman, the Shadowed One, but all are he, the same.
For every sin a child has, must be a punishment to bear.
Your friends are now beyond our reach; trapped deep within his lair
And if they take what is not theirs, there can be no doubt.
He’ll stretch their skin until it snaps, and all the blood drains out.
Remember to always behave, for sins he won’t abide.
He wields a rusty, jagged blade, to cut out your insides.
The lying little children, with souls selfish and small.
Will find their wriggling tongues cut out, and nailed to his wall.
The bullies and their spiteful wrath will find torment as well.
Soon he will strike them where they stand and drag them into hell.
Child, you must obey your parents; do everything they say.
Little ones who do otherwise, he tortures in the flames.
Beatings cleanse the soul, they say, and that is what he’ll do.
If you don’t control your anger then you’ll feel his anger too.
You are your brother’s keeper, remember it always.
Or else, the Bogeyman will chain you underneath the waves.
And while the good children live, the bad ones cannot escape
their fate.
For once you hear his screeching wail, it’s already too late.
So do not cry aloud at night, stay hidden in your bed…
Or the Bogeyman from Silent Hill will come chop off your head.
From Silent Hill: Homecomings
Why is the Jabberwocky poem not here D:?
That used to scare the holy canoli out of me when I was little. Here it is for those who want to read it.
‘Twas brillig. And the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe. All mumsy were the burogroves, and the Momeraths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwocky my son. The jaws that bite, the claws that catch. Beware the jubjub bird, and shun the frumious bandersnatch.”
He took his vorpal sword in hand. Long time the manxom foe he sought. So rested he by the tum-tum tree and stood awhile in thought. And as in uffish thought he stood: The Jabberwock, with eyes aflame came whiffiing through the tolgey wood, and he burbled as he came. One two, one two. And through and through the vorpal blade went schnicker-shnack.
He left it dead.
And with it’s head he went gallumphing back.
“And hast thou slain thee Jabberwock? Come to my arms my beamish boy! Oh, frabjous day! Calloo! Calay!” He chortled in his joy.
Twas brillig. And the slithy toves did gire an gimble in the wabe. All mumsy were the borogroves and the momeraths outgrabe.
Gidgey, how stupid can you get. If you really did study it, you would know that it was probably refering to the burning of infected bodies to avoid spreading the diease.
ten little monkeys!
ten little monkeys jumping on the bed,
one fell off and bumped his head,
“This is too dangerous” one monkey said.
“Lets play it safe before we wind up dead.”
ten little monkeys went out to dine
one choked on a bone and there where nine.
nine little monkeys gone fishing with bait,
a shark swallowed one and there were eight.
eight little monkeys on a holiday in Deven,
one fell off a cliff and there were seven.
seven little monkeys chopping up sticks,
one chopped too much and there where six.
six little monkeys trying to stay alive,
one got shot and there where five.
five little monkeys went to take a pee,
one flushed the toilet and there where three.
three little monkeys went to the zoo,
a lion got loose and there where two.
two little monkeys lying in the sun,
one caught one fire and there was one.
one little monkey playing with a gun,
he pulled the trigger and therewas none!
THE END!!!

Pretty Awesome Poems
Actually the Ashes Ashes part of Ring Around The Rosie is acually Achoo Achoo because if you started sneezing when the plague was going around that meant that you would eventually die soon.
Youre Wrong.
Ring a rosies Referred to the boils the plague gave you.
The pocketful of posies meant having a posie in your pocket which was thought to keep the plague away. And the posie is a flower, not a herb.
Atishoo atishoo was of course, the sneezing.
And we All fall down obviously is death,
Well, “Wee Willie Winkie” always scared me:
Wee Willie Winkie runs through town
Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown
Rapping at the windows, peering through the locks
Are all the kids in bed? it’s after nine o’clock.
Also, ring around the rosie is actually scary. I know you guys know this, but I assume the real meaning is horrible. Let me explain:
Ring around the rosie: You would get a pinkish or rose colored spot on your body and if the plague wasn’t cured, you would get a black ring around it, hence ‘ring around the rosie.
Pocket full of posies: Posies were a flower that either kept things from rotting or from being able to smell the decay. So they put posies with the people who died.
Ashes to ashes: They would burn the dead bodies of the infected, so they wouldn’t infect anyone else.
We all fall down: The plague killed almost or more than half of the civilization at the time…
Hope this helped.
The childs prayer (“If I should die before I wake”) was from Metallicas Enter Sandman as well :D
Imma try a poem k
My heart pounding
Through my chest
I cannot stop
No time to rest
My life is at
The tip of a cliff
The grip of a hand
And only if
I find a way
For this beast
To get away
Safe and sound
My life MIGHT stay
Sorry im not good at writing poem its my first or second time
Here is one from the movie The awakenings
Ladybug ladybug fly away home,
Your house in on fire and your children are gone,
All except one and that’s little Ann,
For she crept under the frying pan
Note: in the movie the lullaby ended in the line “all except for one”
I live in london, UK, and hundreds of years ago, there was a disease called The Black Death or The Great Plague. Many people died from this, but today, many children sing a little poem that goes like this:
Ring’o Ring’o roses,
A pocket full of poses,
Atishoo! Atishoo!
We all fall down!
Lots of little children now know this song off by heart but it really means.
Ring’o Ring’o roses (to stop yoursself from catching the plague, you should hold roses to your nose)
A pocket full of poses ( spots on your face, also known as measles)
Atisho!Atishoo! (sneezing very hard)
We all fall down ! (dying of sneezing too hard, fall down)
The great plague was first caught by king charles the 1st and it was caused by sewage rats. The pied piper was sent to send them away but unfortunately, he also caught the great plague and died. :(
