Prisoner Of War

During the Vietnam war a soldier faithfully wrote letters home to his mother every week so she would know he was all right. But one week she didn’t get a letter and immediately began to worry. Within a couple of weeks she got a letter from the Army saying that her son’s plane had been shot down over North Vietnam.

Prisoner Of War

Her son had been captured and was being held in a Vietnamese Prisoner-of-War camp. They assured her that her son was in good health and that they had no reason to believe the American POWs were being mistreated in any way.

A few weeks later the woman finally received a letter from her son. It read: “Dear Mom, Try not to worry about me, they are treating us well and I’ll be released as soon as the war is over. Make sure that little Teddy gets the stamp for his stamp collection. Your loving son, John”

The woman was overjoyed to hear the news, but was confused because she had no idea who “little Teddy” was. She decided to steam the stamp off the envelope and have a look. When she peeled back the stamp, she saw there was a small message scrawled on it in tiny misshapen writing. It read: “They’ve cut off my hands!”

  • …how did he write on the stamp? Maybe he got another prisoner to write it for him?? Weird

  • How he managed to sneak a chance to write words on the stamp? I mean… the letter and the stamp belong to the enemy… including the stationary…. just weird.

  • If I were in his place I would have been like ‘ Why you gotta be so rude? Don’t you know I’m human too ? ‘ Though that would be highly unlikely. Still so sad. :(

  • Sooo sad! I must have some weird expression so my sister snapped a photo of me and said ‘ Arrey wah. Kal mein yeh mumma ki dikhaoongi ‘ and I’m like ‘Don’t you dare’ . ( Oh wow. I’ll show this to mother tomorrow ) – translation.

  • That picture looks like John McCain in his younger year.

Scaryforkids says: That’s because it is John McCain… Before he was taken prisoner and tortured in the Vietnam war. :)

  • Maybe it would of been better if it said ” they’ve cut off my legs” behind the stamp. It would make more sense.

  • Rainbows:
Maybe thats why it was a creepy story; how could he have written it?

  • He probably made little teddy up and all of that so that the people who held the prisoners captive wouldn’t have suspected anything when they saw the letter

  • How did he write that little message without hands??? oh i guess he couldve used his mouth

  • madxxx
the story is creepy because the man has no hands and when he send the letter to his mom he wanted her to know he had no hands so thats y he put that teddy wanted stamps

  • lilbooshy:
Probably by holding the pencil in his mouth. That would explain the misshapen letters. Perhaps he may have had another prisoner write it,and they just had bad handwriting. It’s not too unbelievable that he could write without his hands.

  • pinkKaygana- Little Teddy was supposed to be like his made-up brother he wanted her to peel off the stamp and read it but he didn’t want them to see it. And they didn’t want the mother to know because they told her he was fine and she would freak out.

  • i still dont get it… who was little teddy? and if they cut his hands off, why were they hiding it from the mother!??

  • For madxxx
the people in charge of the prisoner of war camp cut off his hands so he couldnt write letters or escape. And they were writing letters to the familys saying “oh im gret how bout you”, and he wrote on the stamp with his arm stubs so his mom could see it, and now wat was happenin!

  • i dont get it can someone please explane to me?????!

if you do and whoever did

    thankyou
